Liverpool have joined Manchester United in being the latest team to register their interest in signing Benfica star boy for a reported £85m.

This morning various credible Anfield sources have confirmed that Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the 22-year-old Uruguayan and that the Reds would be willing to smash their transfer record to push a deal over the line.
Nunez made 41 appearances for Benfica throughout the course of the 21/22 football season, scoring an astounding 34 goals and providing 4 assists for his team.
Many would argue that the £85m price tag set by Benfica is steep considering he has only been playing at the top tier for a handful of seasons, and they would be correct. A signing so expensive for any player would always be a risk, but one thing we know about Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, in particular, is that they hardly ever sign a player who would not work for them.
What would support the potential signing of Nunez, though, would be the number of departures that the Reds are estimated to have this summer.
The Athletic reporter James Pearce suggests that Liverpool will be looking to offload Phillips, Williams, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and, somewhat reluctantly, Sadio Mane.
Do you think Liverpool should pay the price to sign one of the most promising up and coming players in world football?
