Schumacher was involved in a heavy 170mph crash in yesterday's Q2 session which saw a premature end to his weekend.

For the third time in the German’s Formula One career, he reached Q2 and was hopeful he, and his teammate, would both be able to get into Q3 together.

Schumacher, whilst attempting to reach Q3, was pushing the car and the track to the limit right before the driver lost control of the car and went spiralling into the concrete barriers of the Jeddah Street circuit at 170mph.

The German was reportedly conscious throughout the entire event, according to the marshals, but was taken to the hospital via an air ambulance for precautionary checks.

The Haas driver returned to the circuit today following the incident and confirmed in an interview that he is feeling ‘fine’ and the fact that he woke up with no aches or pains shows ‘just how far safety in the sport has come’.

Mick also went on to say that he ‘feels up and fit enough to race [in today’s grand prix]’ but preserving the car so that it is back to usual condition for the Melbourne Grand Prix is more important.

Reflecting on his qualifying session, Schumacher feels as if ‘Q3 was in reach’ had he managed to finish his lap and he is confident that his car is capable of consistently being in the battle for points.

Looking ahead to the next grand prix in Melbourne, Schumacher feels like it would be a ‘nice place to score the first Q3 and the first set of points’ in his Formula One career.
