Oscar Piastri is the current reserve driver for Alpine F1 team and Esteban Ocon, driver for Alpine, thinks that the Australian could have a full-time seat in the sport ‘very soon’.

The Australian driver is an incredible driver and many are baffled by the fact that he does not have a full-time seat in the sport.

Piastri has won back-to-back championships in FIA motor racing, having won the F3 championship in 2020 before again winning the F2 championship in 2021.

Despite such success, the youngster finds himself without a full-time seat – with rumours suggesting that Piastri could be ‘loaned’ out to other teams for 2023 to allow the 21-year-old to build up his experience at the top level of motorsport.

Current Alpine driver, Esteban Ocon, was asked about what the future could hold for Piastri and the Frenchman was very positive about the Australian’s future.

“Oscar is a great guy. I mean, he’s very involved in the team, he’s going to have a great testing programme.

“He’s going to be probably the best-prepared driver ever, with the test programme that he’s got at Alpine.

“I’m sure he’s going to have a seat in Formula 1 very shortly. I don’t know [for which team], but opportunity comes for the ones who deserve it.

“And Oscar is one of them. He’s won all the major titles and he’s very professional and dedicated. So yeah, I’m sure you will see him around pretty soon.”

The two-time world champion Fernando Alonso was also quizzed on the future of Oscar Piastri, to which he responded that he hopes Piastri will be in a Formula One seat sooner rather than later.

“He’s a good guy, obviously very talented, won all the junior categories until now, which obviously shows that he has the talent.

“[He’s] very professional and hardworking on the simulator and on the factory, in all our meetings. He’s still very young. Hopefully he finds a seat soon."

That being said, where could the Australian go? The only realistic options would be Williams or Haas.
